Organization Overview:
Room to Read’s mission is to provide under-privileged
children with an opportunity to gain the lifelong gift of education.
The organization was founded on the belief that education is the
key to breaking the cycle of poverty and taking control of one’s
own life. We currently work in Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, Sri
Lanka and Vietnam, countries with a desperate lack of resources
to educate their children.
Room to Read is a results-driven organization that seeks to intervene
early in a child’s life to provide ongoing educational opportunities
in their communities.
We have developed a successful approach to building educational
infrastructure and opportunities which consists of:
- Partnering with communities to build schools through our challenge
grant
program
· Establishing bi-lingual libraries
· Publishing local language children's books
· Establishing computer and language labs
· Providing long-term scholarships to girls
In Room to Read’s first five years, the global team has already
built 140 schools, opened 2,230 bi-lingual libraries with 1.2 million
books, provided over 1,700 long-term girls’ scholarships,
and established 77 new computer and language rooms. Our long-term
goal is to help 10 million children to gain the lifelong gift of
education.
Opportunity:
Room to Read has experienced tremendous growth since our
founding in early 2000, and is now seeking a full time Internal
Audit Manager to develop and grow the internal audit department.
The Internal Audit Manager will report to the Chief Financial Officer.
Primary Duties:
· Plan, perform and supervise country office audits,
often working with minimal direction.
· Aggressively seek efficiencies in audit coverage through
the development of early-warning systems and other continuous monitoring
procedures.
· Provide the CFO with appropriate information regarding
the status of the audit plan, controversial issues, strategic business
initiatives, etc. that affect the overall goals of the organization.
· Ensure that internal control weaknesses and inefficiencies
have been identified and communicated to senior management, with
adequate recommendations in a timely manner.
· Develop a strong working relationship with country directors.
This relationship is predicated on developing continuous, proactive
communication lines.
· Offer constructive analysis and appraisal of company policies,
procedures, financial and operational reports, system of internal
controls, and efficiency of operations.
· Research complex accounting issues.
· Work with external audit firm.
· Attend professional development and training seminars on
a regular basis.
Qualifications:
Required:
· Five or more years U.S. experience in planning, performing
and supervising audits.
· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
· Strong knowledge of GAAP and GAAS
· Knowledge of / experience in finance / accounting in a
nonprofit organization
· History of dedicated volunteer activity and/or commitment
to non-profit organizations
· Work experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
· Adept at using Excel and Word
· Excellent interpersonal and writing skills
· Detail oriented and extremely organized
· Commitment to quality and efficiency
· Results oriented
· Flexibility and ability to multi-task
Preferred:
· Licensed CPA or CPA candidacy
· Quick Books skills
· Experience living or working internationally

Compensation:
The salary range for this position will be determined based upon
the experience of the candidate hired. Health, dental, and 401k
benefits are also provided. The non-monetary compensation includes
